One Man's Poison

A detective trapped in a nightmare asylum. What is real, and how far will you go to escape?

One Man's Poison

Character model, texture and render by Sherry Chenn

Detective Jake Dubrowski is visited in his office by Darla Brant, whose younger sister has been missing. Chasing a lead, Jake finds himself at the supposedly abandoned Fountain Vale Mental Hospital. Now trapped inside, he has to find the youngest Brant sister and get them both out before reality finishes falling apart around him.

One Man’s Poison is a survival horror game in development at CrimsonStrife Games for PC and Linux, with characters loosely based on the work of James Cotton and Wolf359 Productions alongside original ones.

My work on it

I am the project lead and, to date, its only developer. All C++ and Blueprint scripting is mine, as is every internal system in the game — inventory, combat, interaction, and the rest — designed and implemented from scratch.

Beyond gameplay code that has meant third-party integration and platform work: FMOD for audio, CrowdControl, a Twitch viewer-interaction system written from the ground up, and getting the game running on Steam Deck. I led the character designs and did the rigging; the animation in place today is still placeholder. I have also built and maintained the game’s website.

Character concept art, modeling, and texturing have been outsourced so far, so that I could concentrate on the engineering, I do have modeling and texture experince, so this will likely change eventually and some of that work will be mine as well. Running that side of it is its own job: writing the briefs, directing the work against the designs, and scheduling it around the build. The character model, texture, and render shown here are the work of Sherry Chenn.
